The Federation began at the end of 2019 with taFE NSW for a new agreement on teachers and related employees. “TAFE NSW continues to work with the NSW Teachers Federation to meet commitments that can be implemented outside of enterprise negotiations, including the transformation of temporary workers into permanent jobs, and also to create new consultation agreements between the two organizations. We look forward to providing more information on these commitments when the time comes. While this agreement occasionally swallowed, there were a large number of teachers who took advantage of it. In collective bargaining for an EA, the union is more concerned than a simple wage increase; it continues to strive to include formulations to alleviate persistent difficulties in the workplace. Federation and TAFE NSW have held numerous meetings at which we are making progress in reaching agreement on key issues. Key issues identified by TAFE members, who conducted a forward-looking survey distributed to all workplaces, included a 2.5 per cent wage increase without loss of conditions, an increase in tenure and access to genuine professional development for the maintenance of the professional currency. A spokesman for TAFE NSW said it had participated in “constructive negotiations” with the NSW Teachers` Association for a new enterprise agreement after the previous one expired in February. The Australian Education Union NSW Teachers Federation and TAFE NSW began negotiations late last year for a new Tafe Commission of NSW Teachers and Related Employees Enterprise Agreement. Both parties have an interest in robust and fast business negotiations and are committed to this. It has never been ideal, let alone fair.
Pending the formal inclusion of this clause in the agreement on teachers and related workers, the Federation will continue to monitor temporary work.
